Hub Connection

BB connects to a hub — the server that stores your workspaces, projects, and collaborations. You choose which hub to connect to from the Hub Connection section in Settings.

Your hub is your data

Changing your hub location is like switching between computers — you'll see completely different workspaces and projects. Your Local Hub shows your local data. Your Cloud Hub shows your cloud data. They don't sync.

Hub types

☁️

Cloud Hub

Hosted and managed by Beyond Better — no setup required. Your data is stored securely in the cloud, and you can access your workspaces from any device.

  • No installation or configuration required
  • Access from any device, anywhere
  • Requires an internet connection
  • Enables team collaboration for distributed teams

Note: Cloud Hub does not currently support filesystem data sources. If you need BB to access files on your local machine, use Local Hub. Filesystem support via a local agent is coming soon.

🖥️

Local Hub

Runs on your own machine. Your data stays local — nothing is sent to BB's cloud. Requires BB Hub to be installed and running.

  • Your data never leaves your machine
  • Works with filesystem data sources
  • Optional local-only offline mode (no internet required)
  • Requires BB Hub installation

Note: Local Hub is the only option that currently supports filesystem data sources. Cloud-based filesystem support via a local agent is coming soon.

Custom Hub

Connect to a BB Hub running on your organisation's network — either on a company server or a private cloud VPC. This is the enterprise option: your data stays within your organisation's infrastructure.

  • Data stays within your company network
  • Suitable for organisations with strict data requirements
  • Configure by entering your hub's domain and port
  • Your company may provide a custom URL that connects automatically

How to switch hubs

Open Settings and select Hub Connection from the left nav. You'll see a list of available hubs.

  1. Choose a hub — Cloud Hub is always listed. Local hubs on your network are listed automatically. Click Re-scan for local hubs if a local hub isn't showing.
  2. Test the connection — Click Test Hub to verify you can reach it before switching.
  3. Switch — Click Switch Hub to connect. Your view will reload showing that hub's workspaces and projects.

Custom or company hub? Click Show advanced options to enter a domain and port manually. If your company has set up a custom BB Hub URL, it may connect automatically the first time you open BB.
